When a beginner wants to select golf driver’s there are certain aspects which he has to consider, such as the new club head design – moveable weights and multi-material heads. Less alluring aspects like the shaft flex, right loft and the grip are even more important in matching the driver to the standard of the game, making it possible to achieve extra yard off the tee. One of the best recommendations when selecting a perfect golf driver would be to try a variety of styles and see whether that works well in accordance with your preference. The significance of the shaft on the golf driver is often under-estimated; however it can have a huge effect on the game. The basic selection is between the graphite shaft and the steel shaft. However, titanium shafts are also available although they are not as popular as steel and graphite shafts. Graphite and steel shafts have specific advantages and characteristics. Steel’s molecular structure is uniform all through the shaft and they are relatively heavier and cheaper as compared to the graphite shafts. Graphite shafts are less reliable than the steel shafts due to its difficult manufacturing method. Graphite shafts are significantly lighter than the steel shafts as they weigh about 55 to 60 grams while the steel shafts weigh around 125 to 128 grams. Graphite is well-liked for its vibration dampening. Although a few recent developments in steel shafts like the true temper’s sensicore, ping’s cushion and sim’s shock relief have reduced the gap between graphite and steel. However, the lighter weight of the graphite shafts provides swing speed which is meant to be for more power. Most of the professional golfers still prefer steel shafts while graphite shafts are generally popular among the women, senior players and the beginners. Graphite shafts are gaining more popularity at present because of its light weight and it can also be used for long distance shots. It is even more flexible and can be very easy for the golfer to control his shot.

Titleist recently released its new 906 F4 fairway wood family, that is available in 13.5, 15.5, and 18.5 lofts. I’ve wanted to give this club a try since I read about it, but only recently did the pro shop get a demo in. Barely teed it up and still this club send the ball soaring high into the sky every time. I was using the 15.5 degree loft. Hitting it off the deck had the same high flying results minus the occasional shanks of course. Taking it out on the front nine proved to make me want to reach for my wallet as every ball (Pro V1s) went high and straight right where I wanted it to, a bit uncanny.
The club is designed with a lower center of gravity that is responsible for the high launch, but it also helps to add more spin. Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Titleist, Steve Pelisek, claims that “The new 906 F4 is the most playable Titleist fairway club yet.” I loved my 975J driver for a long time and as far as Titleist clubs go, this club is quite superior to its predecessors and would be a crucial addition to any golfers bag.
